Victoria Street aka Diagon Alley
July 13, 2024
Edinburgh's windy cobblestoned Victoria Street, lined with its colorful shops, is thought to be the inspiration for Diagon Alley, the famed street that sells wizarding supplies in Harry Potter.
Whether you're a Potterhead or not, it's definitely worth a stroll. It's one of the most photographed streets in the city. It's just so much more fun if you're a fan!
You’ll find plenty of restaurants and independent boutiques selling clothes, art, books, beauty products, candles, but also Harry Potter shops like The Enchanted Galaxy and Museum Context.
Museum Context is the most famous Harry Potter Shop in Edinburgh. It's 3 stories of just fun. The inside is so photogenic.
This shop was established 1873! It used to be home to Robert Cresser’s brush shop. Fans believe this was the inspiration for Ollivander’s Wand Shop.
It's quite popular, like a nightclub for nerds. Expect to wait in line to get in. There's a doorman to regulate entrance.
If you head to the bottom of Victoria Street towards Grassmarket and take a left, you’ll find the famous Candlemaker Row. This is also known as Diagon Alley.
Also nearby is Greyfriars Kirkyard, where you visit Tom Riddle's grave and see other familiar names on gravestones.
Just beside the Kirkyard, you can catch a glimpse of George Heriot’s School which is thought to be a real-life Hogwarts.
I was very lucky I got to see Harry Potter in concert at Edinburgh Castle, it was a night to remember watching one of my favorite movies with 8,000 other people who love it as much as I do, at a castle, under the stars.
I took this photo leaving the concert. I imagined Hermonie grabbing an ice cream after the show.
